I could never go to Mexico…

It’s too Unsafe!

After 5 years living in Mexico I am still hearing this absolute nonsense.

Dear USians... do you not realize that your country has been brainwashing you with propaganda to make you fear leaving your comfort zone to explore anywhere that might have people with skin a slightly different shade than yours?

"Oh but the cartels"

Cartel activity is primarily focused on the US border because guess what? The cartels are supplying to the citizens of the USA who have a WAY bigger drug problem than we have here. (by design) Most violence in this country involves cartels and yes - it's a problem but one that is easily avoided. Mexico is a BIG country.

"A friend of a friend of a friend had a bad experience in Mexico"

I know multiple people in the USA who have had active shooter incidents either near or in their schools. No such problem exists here and yet you still send your kids to school in the USA.

It's just dangerous cuz the media says so...

Honestly if you're racist enough to believe the yellow hazed portrayal of Mexico in movies then you may need to look inward.

I personally left the USA because I saw how it was descending into a place that I didn't want to raise my kids. I was not wrong. The USA is the terrorist of the world and now it's terrorizing its own citizens. It ignores gun crime - instead teaching kids how to hide from their would be kiIIers instead of addressing the problem. Kidnapping ppl from the streets and sending them to who knows where for merely being a shade darker than the white supremacists.

In Oaxaca same sex marriage and abortion is legal and considered to be a human right. A 3rd gender has always been recognised (Muxe people). Cultures are celebrated for their individuality (guelaguetza) instead of trying to be erased.

You do not have to look over your shoulder for active shooters in cinemas, parks, schools etc.

I run a business for families and would NEVER dream of hosting in a place where people were at risk - nor would I choose to raise my kids in a place that's dangerous in any way... quite the opposite... we are so much safer, our food is clean, people are kind and community driven and we never worry about guns.

So if you're one of those who are still parroting this nonsense then know that it's based on learned racism and media bias and not the reality of living in this amazing country.

Every place has its problems and not everyone has the ability to leave or the desire to stay and fight. But please don't judge a place that you haven't been to without questioning why you think those things.
