About Our Retreats
We create high end, Boutique style, personalized Retreats for families at a price that’s within reach.
At SoMos Retreats we know that parenting is both beautiful and exhausting. That’s why we have created an experience where families can truly take a break without having to worry about the logistics OR the stress of planning a vacation.
Traveling with children in a place you’re not familiar with can be overwhelming. You want to show them the world but lets face it - you need a break too and could do with a little down time of your own while you’re on vacation.
That’s where we come in. Our mission is to ensure that the needs of both the parent and the child are met so that you can all enjoy the vacation that you deserve.
Our Retreats offer the perfect balance: time to recharge on your own as well as meaningful experiences to create memories with your children.
During your stay you can expect a concierge like service in our private WhatsApp group. We can help you with dinner recommendations, reservations, suggestions for fully loaded activities and support for anything you need assistance with during your stay.

About Oaxaca
Oaxaca is a place that will stay with you long after you leave. It is a city alive with color - from the vibrantly colored buildings to the flowers which are in bloom year round. It’s encircled by mountains which are lush and green in the rainy season or dappled with the purples from the Jacarandas during the Spring.
Art is everywhere. In the stores and on the streets. You’ll see a lot of political street art which tells the story of the people and often gives commentary on world wide events.
Oaxaca is also incredibly progressive. It’s one of the few places in the world that officially recognizes a third gender (the Muxe people) and celebrates them as part of its rich cultural tapestry. Same-sex marriage is legal here (2019), as is abortion (since 2017.) You can feel the open heartedness of the people as you move through the city.
The climate in Oaxaca is dreamy year round. Warm days and cool nights. The rainy season brings afternoon showers and late night storms which freshen the air and nourishes the vegetation causing an explosion of natural colors.
Oaxaca is always celebrating something. You can see weddings at the Santa Domingo Cathedral every weekend with monos de calenda depicting the bride and groom twirling in the square. Random Calendas - colorful parades of dancers, brass bands, and giant puppets can be seen on almost a daily basis!
Children are treasured. Many parks come alive at night with activities for children - from bouncing balloons to electric cars, candy floss, street treats and more!
Oaxaca is famous for it’s incredible food. With many Michelin star rated restaurants as well as hundreds of small, equally delicious family run establishments - you’ll never have to go far to find something delicious, local and fresh to satiate your appetite.

Curated Street art. These lovers are typical of the kind of art you see on the streets of Xochimilco & Jalatlaco.
Professional grafitti is a common sight. Often political in nature - showcasing domestic and foreign causes. Some of the pieces even go viral!
Even the food is colorful. Our street food tour will show you the most delicious typical dishes from the region.
During Dia de Muertos shops and homes decorate their doorways and reception rooms with Catrinas, paper mache calaveras and altars.

Tania
FOUNDER
I am an intentionally SoLo Mother of two who has always had a passion for travel.
I started traveling within weeks of my children being born and loved witnessing the world through their eyes. I quickly realized that there were also some things about traveling with kids that could be improved upon. I missed doing some ‘boring’ sightseeing. I also missed people watching from a fancy balcony while slowly snacking on a local delicacy in peace! I began dreaming up a way to create vacations for families that balanced making memories with some time to do adult things too!
I have a background in the service industry: Restaurants, Corporate level Customer Service and some marketing.
In 2020 I hired a business coach who gave me the skills and the confidence to combine everything that I had learned in my working life with my passions (travel & children) and turn it into a business.
In September 2020 I began building my audience. In September 2021 I launched SoMos Retreats and sold out my first ever Retreat! In February 2023 I opened the first SoMos CaSa in Oaxaca, Mexico. I’ve also hosted Retreats at the beaches of Oaxaca, in Thailand and also Laos. In Winter 2025 I’ll be hosting Retreats in Thailand, Laos & Vietnam.
We have a repeat guest rate of over 30% with may coming back for their 4th experience this year!
Giving parents a true vacation is my main motivation but I also take supporting the local communities where we host just as seriously.
We foster a family environment not just for our guests but for our staff. None of us could exist without the other. Our wonderful staff are committed to making sure that you have the vacation that you truly deserve.

Nanny
Lolita has been with us since our 2nd ever Retreat. I had been looking for a babysitter for my children and she was recommended. My daughter was in a super clingy stage where she wouldn’t let anyone near her. Within 15 minutes her and Lolita were best friends. I offered her a job that same night!
Lolita has a way with children that is patient, caring and loving. She intuitively knows how to approach each child in a way that makes them quickly comfortable.
Lolita can understand English and speaks a combination of Spanish & English to the children (but is happy to immerse them in Spanish on request.)
In her own words:
“I am a Mother to three wonderful children.
I love being around little ones and making them feel safe and cared for. Encouraging learning through play, crafting and every day life is a passion of mine. I am patient, loving and cheerful and this is reflected in how I interact with your children.
Being a Nanny on the Retreats is an amazing experience. I love getting to know the children and their personalities. I am also really enjoying learning a new language.

Rosa
Chef
Rosa started working for us when we opened the first SoMos CaSa in February 2023.
Rosa can turn any food into magic. She loves to cook traditional Zapotec and Oaxacan cuisine but has become skilled at many types of cuisine. She has the ability to learn something new and then put her flare on it.
Rosa loves getting to know the children and creating dishes that they will love. Nothing makes her happier than when the kids bring back their empty plates!
Rosa has only recently learned Spanish (you’d never know) and is killing it on duolingo learning English.
A smile is never far from her face. We are lucky to have her as a part of the SoMos FaMilia.
In Her own words:
“I started working for Ms Tania in February 2023 as a house keeper. One day I offered to help her prepare dinner. That day Tania tried my seasoning and loved it! She was looking for a new chef and offered the position to me!
Cooking is something that I have wanted to do since I was a child. I come from a town in the mountains where they cook traditional food on a stove called a ‘comal’. I grew up helping my grandmother and mother prepare the dough to make Tortillas by hand. I learned how to make foods like mole, yellow chicken, molcajete sauce, salsas and all manner of traditional cuisine.
I love to cook because I see my magic and my ideas come to life. It brings me joy. I am so grateful to Tania for the opportunity to nourish our guests and learn more about my talent for cooking and keeping both the children and the adults well fed and happy!”

Adriana
CaSa Concierge & Marketing
Adriana is the person who helps to make sure your trip runs smoothly. She guides you on excursions, is a fount of Oaxaca knowledge and will make sure that you get exactly the vacation that you need!
She is in our group chat during your stay as a concierge to help you with recommendations, reservations and anything else that you may need help with while you are in Oaxaca.
Adriana is a vital part of the SoMos FaMilia with a myriad of talents - not least of which is helping us out with marketing.
She always has a smile on her face and enthusiasm to make your trip incredible!
