There are 16 indigenous languages so you can imagine how many different dishes, dances, drinks and traditions exist within each community. This is the one time of year where you can see them come together under one roof. Sharing and preserving of cultures is something that is taken very seriously in the state of Oaxaca and this festival is put on ‘by the people, for the people’ which means that every aspect of it is accessible to all (for free!) Every Monday (lunes del cerro) in the auditorium there is a huge display of dancing and culture.
